ENTZI

Entzi is a settlement west of Kalyvia, and it owes its name to the German geologist and mineralogist Enze Franz.

King Otto and his entourage, during their visit to Kymi and its surroundings, discovered the existence of coal deposits, the exploitation of which began in 1844.

While in the early years, lignite was transported from the Kazarma mines, in 1870, the transportation of lignite was shifted to the Entzi and Maletiani mines, and it was done by an aerial train to the beach of Kymi. The mines in the area extracted high-quality lignite. Their operation permanently ceased in 1962.
