Due to its prominent position, the castle was also used for signaling with fires to Skyros, the Sporades islands, Mount Athos, and Avlonarion in the interior of Evia.
Next to the castle, there is the chapel of Agios Georgios, which gave its name to the castle.
On the way back, you will also pass by the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior (Metamorfosi Sotiros). According to tradition, the monastery was founded by monks from Mount Athos in the 15th century.
